Going Green: Valor Hospitality launches new Sustainability Strategy across UK portfolio
Valor Hospitality is set to ramp up its environmental responsibility with the launch of a new Sustainability Strategy, commencing with a pledge to roll out rigorous Green Key standards across 40 hotels in the UK.
Through the strategy, Valor will ensure its operations prioritise environmental impact, stakeholder engagement, energy, water, and waste management, food and beverage operations, compliance and biodiversity.
Valor has also committed to achieving Green Key certification across the 40 hotels under its management in the UK. Hotels already Green Key certified within Valor’s UK portfolio include voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, which opened in March last year.
Designed to unlock sustainability in the hospitality industry, the Green Key certification is operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and is managed in England and Scotland by environmental charities, Keep Britain Tidy and Keep Scotland Beautiful.
The new Sustainability Strategy represents Valor’s response to global demands for sustainable tourism, with 80% of global travellers believing sustainable travel is important*.
The new strategy will also see Valor strengthen its people-first culture, through which it works to create an inclusive, supportive workplace. To-date, this effort has seen Valor engage and support its team members, resulting in a coveted position on The Sunday Times Best Top 10 Places to Work in the UK for two consecutive years.
Brian McCarthy, President of Valor Hospitality UK & Europe, said: “This marks an important step for our team at Valor and reflects our continued focus on ESG initiatives across the business. We see Green Key certification as an important benchmark for demonstrating our commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the wellbeing of our team members.”
Louise Carr-Merino, Green Key England Manager, added: "We are delighted that Valor Hospitality has chosen to work towards Green Key to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable operations and environmentally responsible management in their hotels. As part of an evolving ESG strategy, Valor has set an ambitious target for all hotels in their UK portfolio to achieve Green Key certification in 2026. During the application process, each hotel will go through an on-site assessment conducted by an independent auditor to verify compliance with the robust Green Key standards and imperative
requirements. We look forward to receiving the applications and reviewing the submissions as the group continues its sustainability journey."
