Booking.com prioritising third-party certifications for sustainable travel

Booking.com reaffirms its dedication to promoting sustainable travel options and supporting accommodation partners in operating more sustainably. The leading digital travel platform has announced updates to highlight sustainable choices, emphasizing third-party certifications such as Green Key.

In a move to empower travellers, Booking.com has introduced a label indicating properties with third-party sustainability certifications, facilitating filtered searches. Over 16,500 properties already boast such certifications on the platform. Consequently, the Travel Sustainable name, logo, and levels will be discontinued.

The focus is on encouraging accommodation partners to pursue third-party certification.

Partners will receive tailored support from Booking.com through educational resources, including informative materials and online courses on sustainable hospitality available on the Partner Hub. Partners can also showcase their sustainability practices, spanning water, food waste, energy, plastic, and local community efforts, on their property listings.

Amidst evolving regulatory landscapes and heightened consumer expectations, Booking.com's updates reflect its commitment to facilitating sustainable travel choices.
