Green Key Introduce ESG Hub at 10th Independent Hotel Show London

Last week, Green Key England had the privilege of hosting the first ESG Hub at the 10th anniversary of the iconic Independent Hotel Show at London Olympia. The hub was dedicated to offering advice and guidance to hoteliers on all things Environmental, Social and Governance within the hospitality industry.

Green Key National Operators Louise Carr-Merino and Emma Whitlock met with the event organisers earlier this year and presented the idea of having a “green zone” at the show. Following our conversations with event manager Glenn Wallace, we knew that having an area dedicated to ESG and sustainability would be a profound offering for the hoteliers attending the show given the current climate crisis and thus the plan for the ESG HUB was born! Green Key England hosted the hub alongside some of our lovely partners; Bikeable, STROODLES - ECO TABLEWARE, Green Eco Technologies and Clean the World.

Green Key England are extremely proud to have brought sustainability to the forefront of the show for the first time and provided a space where hoteliers could come for advice and guidance on products, services and solutions that can help make their businesses more sustainable and discuss ideas with likeminded hoteliers.

At this time of global climate crisis and as businesses navigate their way toward net zero targets, we would encourage hoteliers more than ever to share their best practices so that we can all improve and work together towards a more sustainable hospitality industry. Green Key has a fantastic network that provides a platform to share best practices and a global database of hotels and ideas.

Louise was invited to speak on a panel about funding and motivation for sustainability in hospitality businesses alongside Sarah Duncan (Sleeping Lion and author of The Ethical Business Book) Eljesa Saciri (General Manager of the Zetter Townhouse) and facilitated by Emily Newman (NewDog PR) The panel took place during the opening day of the show in front of a packed audience.

On Day 2 Louise and Sarah Duncan hosted a follow up session in the Social Business Space.

Green Key and the Independent Hotel Show organisers have already started planning how we can make the ESG Hub bigger and better next year and cannot wait to bring it back to the show in 2023. In the meantime, we will be running the Go Green Advice Hub at The Hotel and Resort Innovation Expo at London ExCel next week on 19th and 20th October.
